COUNSELLING HELP

Being made redundant can have a devastating impact on your physical, emotional and mental wellbeing.

It can leave you feeling:

  • Stressed
  • Depressed
  • Anxious
  • Nervous
  • Frightened
  • Alone
  • Unstable
  • Insecure

Counselling can play a pivotal role in aiding you to feel more positive about your life and in adjusting to the transition of embarking on a new career.

Good counselling should provide many other benefits:

  • Understanding
  • Support
  • Feeling you are not alone
  • Feeling you are being listened to
  • Someone to talk to who is impartial
  • The opportunity to state your point of view without being judged
  • A place of safety to explore your emotions
  • Helps you to address your concerns
  • Gives you a sense of relief
  • Reduces stress
  • Decreases anxiety
  • Tackles depression
  • Enables you to come up with solutions to problems
  • Helps you to make sense of your life
  • Boosts your self esteem
  • Empowers you
  • Encourages a positive mental attitude
  • Helps to motivate you
  • Uncovers hidden talents

If you are suffering from the negative effects of redundancy, why stagnate in your misery? Take control of your life and make the change now. Although counselling is not guaranteed to help you and doesn’t suit everyone, it could be good to try it and you may be pleasantly surprised at the outcome. If you try it and find you don’t get on with it, you have the right to stop it whenever you want to.

Don’t be embarrassed about going to your doctor, you only need to give a brief description about what you are feeling and tell them you believe counselling may help. They should be able to refer you to counsellor on the NHS for free.

Alternatively, if you look through your phone book, there will be local organisations listed under Counselling that you could pay privately to see.  Often the first session will be free, if not, ask, it gives you the opportunity to asses if counselling or the counsellor are going to be suitable for you.

The main thing is to realise just how wonderful you are; to know that this is just a blip in your life that you will get through. To know how talented and skilled you are. To be happy with yourself and all of your quirks, regardless of what anyone else thinks. Don’t strive to be ‘normal’, strive to be your authentic individual self and never, ever, give up.
